Graveyard Brawl turns fatal, two held for Murder in the city

Port Blair: A late-night drinking session inside the Bathubasti graveyard premises allegedly ended in murder after a violent altercation claimed the life of a 36-year-old painter, with police arresting two men from Mayabunder within hours of the case surfacing. The deceased, identified as V. Shankar, was found lying with visible injuries inside the graveyard area on the morning of May 24, triggering a murder investigation by the Pahargaon Police.

According to sources, Shankar had reportedly been consuming alcohol along with a few acquaintances inside a shed located within the burial ground on the night of May 23. Two intoxicated men from Mayabunder were also allegedly present at the spot.
Investigators said a dispute reportedly broke out between Shankar and the two men over space inside the shed or a related issue. What began as a verbal argument soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

Police sources indicated that Shankar allegedly sustained severe injuries during the assault, which later proved fatal. Following information regarding the recovery of the body, Pahargaon Police Station registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The FIR states that police received information about the body being found at the Bathubasti graveyard on the morning of May 24. Upon reaching the spot, investigators reportedly noticed multiple injuries on the deceased, leading to suspicion of homicidal assault.

During the course of investigation, police arrested two accused, identified as Krishna and Sagar, both reportedly hailing from Mayabunder.
Sources said investigators also recovered incriminating materials, including blood-stained clothes allegedly linked to the assault. Police have not officially disclosed further details, stating that the investigation is continuing.
